Alissa Lynn Healy
About
Alissa Lynn Healy is an Indigenous educator, multi-media artist, and author from Fairbanks, Alaska. She grew up in a creative household that inspired her to appreciate different forms of art, as well as the world around her. In particular, Healy developed a deep interest in plants and animals, culture, and spirituality.
She comes from a rich cultural background, including an Athabascan heritage from Healy Lake, Alaska and adoption into the Tlingit culture as “Taan Yadee.” Healy Lake is one of her favorite places to visit for a break from busy city life. It’s also a place where she has learned many important life lessons and connected to her spirituality.
After pursuing an Associate of Arts Degree and a BA Degree in Elementary Education at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, she began teaching within the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District. Healy self-published her first-ever book “Coloring the Turtles & Tortoises of the World: A Coloring Book for All Ages” around the same time, in May 2021. She plans on continuing her career in education as well as publishing additional books for years to come.
Other interests that Healy has enjoyed over her lifetime include: training in martial arts, volunteering with Girl Scouts within the Farthest North Girl Scouts Association, playing the piano, ice skating, driving fourwheelers through huge mud puddles, kayaking or canoeing, going to rock concerts, and making YouTube videos.
She currently lives in her hometown of Fairbanks, Alaska, with her small family of two dogs and two cats: Yadiimeey, Oakley, Arlo, and Guinness. Much of her free time is spent adventuring in the outdoors with her dogs or snuggled up inside to read a book with her cats.
Healy is a life-long learner who hopes to communicate her love for our planet and its creatures through her teaching, writing, artwork, photography, and videos.
